The hijacking, carried out by the Palestine Liberation Front as part of the ongoing territorial dispute between Israel and Palestine, targeted the passenger liner, 'Achille Lauro'. Klinghoffer (Sanford Sylvan), a Jewish American onboard the vessel, was an unfortunate victim of the dispute.
