- Genre: Comedy
- Plot: For many, the actress Jean Arthur is best known as the lovable. spunky ingenue with the distinctive raspy voice from Frank Capra's MI. Deeds Goes to Town (1936). You Can't Take It with You (1938) and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939). What isn't as well known is that Jean, who was born Gladys Georgianna Greene in Plattsburgh, New York, on October 17, 1900, had a very active stage and silent film career prior to the talkies. In fact, she made more than 50 shorts and feature films before she signed with Columbia Pictures and made her debut for that studio in Whirlpool (1934). Already a gifted performer, it was during the sound era that Jean truly emerged as a popular romantic lead with a natural flair for comedy. JEAN ARTHUR: COMEDY COLLECTION showcases the actress's irresistible appeal in four rare but delightful examples from Jean's peak period at Columbia and includes The Public Menace (1935), Adventure in Manhattan (1936), More Than a Secretary (1936) and The Impatient Years (1944).
