Without Love (1945) pais Hepburn with Spencer Tracy, who must marry her to avoid a wartime housing shortage. With Lucille Ball along for the fun, the laughs rock the room. Dragon Seed (1944), Hepburn plays a heroic Chinese peasant woman who fights against the Japanese invasion of her village during World War II. Undercurrent (1946) finds Hepburn married to a psychotic man (Robert Taylor) who is planning to kill her. Can she trust her mysterious brother-in-law (Robert Mitchum) to help? Sylvia Scarlett (1936), directed by George Cukor, Hepburn plays a con artist who disguises herself as a man to avoid arrest. It was her most controversial film and het first romantic comedy with Cary Grant. The Corn is Green (1979) reteams Cukor with Hepburn in the beloved tale of a Welsh schoolteacher who takes child laborers out of the mines and turns them into scholars.
