When the local carpenters built the chaple, they neglected to erect stairs up to the choir loft, and due to the confines of the chapel's construction, adding a staircase is now impossible. The arrival of Joad, a mysterious stranger, may be the answer to Mother Madalyn's prayers, but Joad faces overwhelming odds. The Task defies the laws of architecture and the town's corrupt businessmen want to ensure that the staircase is Never completed. Compassion and hard work may not be enough to make Mother Madalyn's dream come true - it's going to take a special kind of miracle.
