Fond of regaling nephews Tadd and Tripoli with tales of a sea-captain grandfather lost at sea ('but he still may return'), Molly drinks off her own dark fantasies of castrating god-like NFL stars and Muscle Beach athletes - or are they only fantasies? Her psychosis takes a quantum leap when she encounters Botticelli's 'The Birth Of Venus' at a party, which TV actor Billy Batt (Combat's Rick Jason) describes to her as the legend of a witch who rose from the depths when the jealous wife of Zeus castrated the god and heaved his stones into the sea. Molly grids herself for the ultimate showdown with her demons by going to Jack Dracula's Tattoo Shop and turning herself into a Mermaid before embarking on a date with new acquaintance McPeak (Stafford Morgan), whose popular TV commercials for razor blades have encouraged her cruelest fantasies.; ; Directed by Matt Climber (Butterfly, Candy Tangerine Man), The Witch Who Came From The Sea was threatened with an X rating by the MPAA upon its initial release due to its graphic violence and startling incestuous imagery. Still shocking today, the film is raised above the exploitation level by an audacious and brilliant central performance by Perkins, a remarkably literary and personal script by her then-husband Robert Thom (Wild In the Streets, Death Race 2000), and scenic widescreen photography by first-time cinematographer Dean Cundey (Halloween, The Thing, Jurassic Park). A much-coveted cult collectible from the early days of home video, WITCH has now been rescued by Subversive Cinema from that old, pan & scanned, washed-out version with a fully restored 16:9 anamorphic transfer supervised and approved by Dean Cundey. For the first time since its limited 1976 theatrical release, The Witch Who Came From The Sea can be truly appreciated as the 'adult swim' it is!
